We have an epidemic in the sports world in part thanks to social media. We watch athletes at the highest level and we mimic the things they are doing. But we never actually see the whole picture. We don’t see what got them there and we didn’t see them build the foundation.
Skill is incredibly important but if you truly want to level up your skill you MUST focus as much attention on building up the foundation.
You can’t throw a professional race car driver in your average car and expect it to be competitive. You’re also going to need a more powerful engine. But if you are going to put in a bigger engine you need to build a stronger chassis and a better handling suspension or its just a matter of time before the car falls apart. Of course we need to make sure you are using the proper fuel as well….but I think you get the idea.
Athletes are the same way yet we continue to get it wrong. We hyper-focus on the skills of our sport and fail to build a proper foundation. Skill is ELEVATED by a proper foundation, not the other way around.
